To set the scene, my colleague and I were on the last day and last sector of a three day trip. Each day started around 5:30am with 4 sectors (flights), so by this point we were ready to go home. We had a small break during our turnaround, so I grabbed out my phone to check I hadn't missed any calls or messages. Nope all good. Then I got distracted, I sat my phone one the seat (an iPhone X) face up, so it blended in with the seat. Not thinking another thing about it, I checked catering with my colleague and proceeded to chat to the crew until boarding commenced.
During boarding, on the ATR there is on crew member down the front and another boarding the passengers at the rear of the cabin. Still not realising what have done, I chatted away to the passengers grating them as the cam down the isle and assisting them when necessary. I completed my emergency exit briefs and the remaining of my standard operating procedures.
Everything went smoothly during the flight, we completed service, collected the rubbish, prepared the cabin for landing and took our seats when the seatbelt sign was on.
By the time we landed in our home city it was dark outside. Once everyone disembarks the aircraft the Captain turns off all the power to the aircraft making it quite dark in the cabin. My colleague and the First Officer were already off the aircraft and waiting for the Captain and I on the tarmac. This is where it all went down!
I grabbed my bags down from the overhead lockers and went to get out my phone and keys. I'm looking and feeling, and looking and feeling (keeping in mind its dark so I did this for quite a while). My heart is starting to race, I'm thinking, ****! Where is my phone. The Captain is standing there with me and he offers to call my phone, see if we can find it. It rang but no answer. I checked my Apple Watch to see if I could ping my phone. Nope! It wasn't in range. At this point I'm thinking, OMG someone has stolen my phone out of my bag!
Because we were taking so long my colleague comes back onto the aircraft to find out why we are taking so long. I told him what had happened and I watched his face drop. Turns out a passenger handed my colleague a phone during boarding that they found on a seat, he didn't recognise it as my phone so he handed to the ground crew to put in lost and found!
I managed to use the 'find my phone' app on the Captains phone to make sure it was still at the airport from out previous sector. Sure enough, and thankfully, it was!
I still can't believe how lucky I am that I actually got my phone back, AND that there are some amazing people out there that will really go the extra mile for you.
Shout out to Liam (pictured) who is said colleague and to Nick who was my personal courier!
I should also mention Liam and I are still good friends, if I didn't get my phone back though, it may have been a different story! JOKES <3
